G-DRG guideG-DRG codes explained, from the first letter to the last

Every NHIS service claim rests on a G-DRG code. Here is how the 729 codes in the current schedule are built, what each part means, and the rules that decide what a code pays.

Questions

Frequently asked

What does the A or C at the end of a G-DRG code mean?

A means the patient is 12 years or older and C means under 12, by age on the day of service. Investigation (INVE) codes are the exception: their letters are sequence markers, not age bands.

How many G-DRG codes are there?

The August 2026 schedule, Version 7 (25 September 2026) prices 729 G-DRG codes across 15 Major Diagnostic Categories.

Are medicines part of the G-DRG?

No. Services are paid by G-DRG, and medicines are paid separately, item by item, against the NHIS Medicines List.

Code every claim correctly, first time

Digitrust HMS picks the age band from the patient’s date of birth and checks every code against your level.
